As Western health consciousness emerges from the dark ages of the 1950-1990s, nutrition is coming to the forefront of self-management. Americans are becoming more aware of the importance of diet and nutrition in avoiding poor health issues. This is good news on many fronts.
Ashley Errett, owner of Mountain Mama, creator of Fundamentals of Nutrition, Nutrition Science Education for Hungry Minds, is one of the benefactors of this increased awareness.
Ashley provides online classes related to nutrition science. Her approach is not to say “Hey, eat this.”, but rather, “When you eat this apple, it turns into molecules and then this happens . . . “ She explains the chemistry of what food becomes in your body and how it is utilized. This is the type of information that remains in a person’s consciousness for life.
Currently, the only Online course is “Macronutrients & Metabolism” explaining carbs, protein & fats and how the body breaks them down and how we use them on a daily basis. Ashley answers such questions as “How do we break down beans or meat and how does it help build muscle tissues that we have torn down in exercise?” This information is of high priority to athletes of all disciplines and aficionados of the gym. Sports nutrition will be available online by September, 2020. Student athletes will learn how to properly fuel their bodies before during & after sports.
A few other classes that will be offered online include Digestion & Absorption, Minerals, Water Soluble Vitamins, Fat Soluble Vitamins and more!
Ashley is enthusiastic about the fact that she will be transitioning to online for all courses late in 2020. The current online curriculum consists of grades 1-12 with a the entire family learning at the same time; all of the children and parents are taught at the same time in a self-paced setting. Once the family buys the course, they have eternal access to it. And the price is tremendous – only $149 for the online course, which includes instruction videos, family recipes, teaching the kids to prep food ahead of lesson; they learn budgeting, hands on cooking, as well as nutrition, of course, and all of the worksheets and materials are included online.
